Diaz in AAA?

The buzz in Mets camp is that one final roster decision needs to be made. That decision is Victor Diaz. If the Mets decide to bring Victor Diaz it will require them only to bring 6 bullpen arms North, however if they send him to AAA they can bring 7 bullpen arms to Shea, but they will loose his power threat off the bench.

Bringing Diaz North will provide a versatile player who can provide a good bat off the bench. However this will take away from his playing time, and will limit the depth of the Mets bullpen. As it stands, Billy Wagner, Duaner Sanchez, Chad Bradford, Jorge Julio, and Aaron Heilman are the locks for the pen. If the Mets decide to take a lefty and Diaz, that lefty will likely be Pedro Feliciano.

If they decide to send Victor to AAA that opens up one more spot for guys like Heath Bell, or long relievers like Yusaku Iriki, Jose Lima, and Darren Oliver. Lima and Oliver have no intention of pitching in the minors. Lima feels that he does not need to prove himself, and Oliver may retire. Victor Diaz also said that he does not want to go to AAA, "I have nothing to prove in Triple-A".

In my opinion the Mets have a solid bullpen as is. Aaron Heilman is a long man, who can get lefties out so he eliminates the need for a lefty or a long man. Sending Diaz to AAA would be wasting his talent. What they should do is hold on to Diaz and bring Heath Bell to Shea...But that is just my opinion.
