The Mets surrendered 2 games today. One against the Dodgers and the other against the Puerto Rican All Star team.In the game against the Dodgers the Mets pitching blew up after RHP John Maine left. Maine pitched 2 score less innings. Cuban defector Alay Soler face 9 batters allowing 3 home runs over 1 2/3 innings. Jason Scobie came in in the 6th and allowed 5 runs before loading the bases without giving up an out. He was charged with 8 earned runs. When it comes to offense, Carlos Gomez's bunt single in the fourth inning produced the Mets' lone base runner in the first five innings. Victor Diaz's single in the seventh was their second hit. A two-run single by Chase Lambin got the Mets on the board in the eighth. The Mets lost 16-2 In the second game of the day. The Mets suffered another defeat, this time to the Puerto Rican Team. This game was a complete mismatch but it was very interesting. The highlite of the game was super prospect Lastings Milledge. Milledge scored the Mets only run. Made some great plays in the field, including a B-E-A-Utiful diving catch in Left field. David Wright went 1 for 3 with an RBI single. Kaz Matsui did not play very good offense, but he did play very good defense. He made a sliding stop and played every ball hit to him in text book fashion. 1st round draft pick Mike Pelfry looked good in his 2 innings. He recorded his first career "K" against Ivan Rodriguez. The final score was 6-1. Tune in tomorrow to ESPN at 1:10 PM EST as the Mets play the Indians. Tom Glavine makes his first exhibition game appearance against the visiting Indians. Jose Lima, Mike Venafro and Bartolome Fortunato also are scheduled to pitch for the Mets. |
