SoriaNO!?!

This second base-man may have 40-40 potential but he is not good for the Mets!?!I don't know about you guys but I feel Soriano would hurt this team more than help it. He is getting paid too much for his lack of plate discipline and poor infield defense. I know the homerun numbers are appealing and every year he has 40-40 potential, but he will be playing half of his games at Shea, I would expect those numbers to drop somewhat.

With a questionable starting rotation, defense will be detrimental. Especially defense up the middle, I know the double play combo of Reyes and Soriano sounds good, but I feel that Andy Hernandez will perform if given a fair shot. I felt that defense is always overlooked, last year we had one of the best all-round defenses in the league, only flaw was at second. This year we loose “D” at left-field and first-base, we need to make up for this loss with getting a defensively sound second-baseman. The range of Delgado doesn’t come the slight bit close to what we had last year with Minkey, throws over to Delgado will have to be on tee.

I was thrilled when Boone retired, the idea of having him at second made my stomach cringe, knowing there are much better options in our system (Keppinger and Hernandez). I don’t think Graffanino will be the answer either, I would rather give Kazmat another shot to prove himself worthy of a major league contract than watch Boone or Graffanino.

All in all I am excited for spring training and these positional battles a left and second will make the games just that much more interesting. I am pulling for Andy Hernandez, I saw him play in the Dominican Winter League (ESPN Deportes), he is a Web Gem waiting to happen, I even think he made Sportcenters top plays one night. His glove is what got him on this team, but his ability to leadoff, steal bases and hit for a good average can really help this team. Just to get an idea, who would you guys like to see at second?
