The Zambrano Situation

With Victor Zambrano out for the remainder of the season the Mets have several big decisions to make. Rookie Brian Bannister will miss at least one more start. They have several within the organization and several outside the organization.

One option is to keep Jose Lima on the club and bring up Jeremy Gonzalez from AAA. When Bannister gets healthy they can send the worse of the two back to AAA. Another option they have is Cuban defector Alay Soler. Soler is in AA but has pitched well and has a lot of professional experience in Cuba.

They can also bring Aaron Heilman into the rotation and call up Heath Bell to take his spot in the bullpen. Doing this can and will weaken the bullpen, the question is what is more important, starting pitching, or a strong bullpen? Personally I think that if Heilman is brought in to the rotation he will not leave the rotation, he will dominate.

Outside of the organization the Mets can trade for a starter. Starters who may be available include Dontrelle Willis, Odalis Perez, Barry Zito, Brad Radke, Jason Schmidt, Tony Armas Jr., and Toma Ohka.

The other option for this team is to acquire Roger Clements. Clements will cost over 20 million dollars and will only be around for one season. By acquiring Clements many Met fans think it would be dishonorable to Mike Piazza but you can be sure that he will be very effective.

On the poll below, if you choose to trade for someone then click on the comments link and post your possible trade.
