279 For Glavine

Tom Glavine and the Mets completed a 2 game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mets won 6-0. Glavine pitched 7 scoreless innings allowing just 3 hits, 1 walk, and 10 strikeouts. This is the second time this season Glav has pitched double digit strikeout games. This is Glavine's 279 career victory. Carlos Delgado had the day off, as did Kaz Matsui. Paul LoDuca went 1 of 5 with 2 runs scored and called an excellent game. Beltran went 2 for 4 with a walk. David Wright had a break through 4 hit game. Xavier Nady moved up to the five hole and had 4 RBIs. Chris Woodward, Kaz Matsui's replacement, had a two hit game, and Cliff Floyd scored a run.

After Glavine, Duaner Sanchez pitched a scoreless inning allowing just a leadoff single, he struck out 1. Jorge Julio came in for the 9th and walked the lead-off batter, but not to worry he absolutely dominated the next three hitters, striking them all out to end the game. This is the second consecutive 14 strikeout game for the Mets.

Once again the Pirates rookie starter Paul Maholm, like Ian Snell last night, impressed me. He handled this well stacked line-up very well and pitched great. The only disappointment this series was the fact that I did not get to see Zach Duke pitch, I was really looking forward to that, but oh well...

Final Score: Mets 6, Pittsburgh 0
WP: Tommy Glavine (4-2) 1.94 ERA
LP: Paul Maholm (1-4) 5.08 ERA
