Several Positives In Met Loss

The Mets forgot their brooms in the clubhouse today. They had won the previous two games of the series against Atlanta but a bad start from Trachsel and a lack of timely hits cost the Mets the sweep. The final score was 8-5. Trach went 3.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 6 runs while walking 5 and striking out 1. Darren Oliver came on after Trach and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk. Jorge Julio came in and pitched 2 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 5 and walking 1. Chad Bradford pitched 0.1 innings and allowed a hit and a walk; Pedro Feliciano pitched the rest of that inning flawlessly. The Met offense hit the ball well but did not get those timely hits. They recorded 8 hits but left 11 runners on base.

Despite loosing this one several positives came out from this game...

  • Jose Reyes walked 3 times and had a hit, run and RBI.
  • Beltran hit his first home run since returning to everyday play.
  • Floyd got 2 hits and is starting to break through.
  • Ramon Castro served as a great replacement for LoDuca behind the plate and at the plate. He got two hits and also threw out a base runner.
  • Oh and Endy Chavez hit his first HR as a Met, his first HR since 2004.

Defensively and Pitching wise...

  • Kaz Matsui played good defense, showing good range and executing a nice run down.
  • David Wright, despite not hitting the ball well, still stuck it to the Braves by making a phenomenal diving stop.
  • The Met bullpen got some work in.
  • Despite giving up two runs Jorge Julio threw the ball well. He made one mistake and Jeff Francoeur (4 for 5 with 5 RBIs) made him pay for it with a two run shot. Other than this Julio allowed just 1 hit and he struck out 5. His slider had great bite and we all know he throws gasssss!
Willie Randolph managed a good game but I have just one question for him...Why not play Diaz in right? I know Chavez hit a HR but Diaz can do that and he is on the bench doing nothing, he plays an okay right field and hits the ball hard most of the time. Besides if you are going to give Nady a day off why not play the guy that would be playing there if Nady were not around?
