David Wright Wins You Ball Games!

In an absolute pitchers duel Pedro Martinez wins his fifth in a row against John Smoltz. The final score was 5-2. The phenomenal David Wright hit 2 home runs with 3 RBIs and 1 walk. "The Great Kazuo", Kaz Matsui, continued to play excellent defense and also hit well. He went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored. He was robbed for his third hit when John Smoltz made the second best play of the year thus far. Jose Reyes hit the ball well and also worked a walk against Smoltz. Reyes scored 2 runs and also had an RBI triple.

Pedro pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk while striking out 5. The only blemish came off the bat of Larry Jones when he hit a 2 run shot in the 6th. Dauner Sanchez dominated his inning of work. And the Sandman, Billy Wagner allowed 2 hits and a HBP, while striking out the side for his 6th save of the season.

Carlos Beltran was not in the line-up tonight. He decided after BP that he was not at 100% and did not want to take the risk. Chavez played in his spot again, and played the position very well. However the fact of the matter is that the Mets need Beltran in the line-up. Chavez is great in the field but he is in no way shape or form a great hitter. Having him play everyday with Beltran on the bench makes this line-up weaker. Either Beltran needs to go on the DL, or he needs to play...ENOUGH OF THIS BENCH STUFF!!!
