Maine Event

Tonight the Mets will send 6’ 4”, 205-pound right-hander John Maine to the mound. Maine was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 6th round of the 2002 amateur draft. Now just in case you don’t know Maine was part of the trade that sent Chris Benson to Baltimore and brought himself and Jorge Julio to the Mets.

According to a scouting report done by Michael Oliver of MetsGeek.com Maine has 4 pitches all of which he can throw for strikes. He repertoire includes a low 90’s fastball with movement, a nice curve, a change piece and a slider.

In his minor league career Maine was a blue-chip prospect, he excelled at single A and double A. He was known to be a control pitcher. In 2004 when he made it to AAA he struggled a bit. In 2005 the Baltimore Orioles brought Maine up to the big leagues and he was deficient to say the least. In 10 games (8 starts) he posted a 2-1 win-loss record with a 6.30 ERA. He also made 1 start in 04’ and that too was horrible, he went 3.2 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits.

Tonight Maine makes his return to the majors. He will face off against Mike O’Connor or the Washington Nationals. Maine and the Mets look for the sweep catch all the action on SNY or WFAN. The game starts at 7:56 PM EST. Good Luck John and LETS GO METS!!!
