The Maine Event Was Mike O'Connor

The Mets got absolutely dominated by the young lefty Mike O'Connor. O'Connor pitched 7 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 run. That lone run came off the bat of Paul LoDuca in the first. After that O'Connor did not allow a hit until LoDuca's third AB. The Mets tacked on a 9th HR off the bat of Carlos Beltran but at that point the game was far out of reach as the final score was 6-2.

John Maine pitched an okay 5.1 innings. He allowed 4 run on 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking two. In 4 of Maine’s five innings he allowed the leadoff runner to get on base. In my opinion he threw the ball well, but was a bit nervous. If he could settle down I think he can be a nice addition to this team in the near future.

WP: Mike O'Connor (1-1) 0.75 ERA
LP: John Maine (0-1) 6.75 ERA
