Shea Winds Help Zambrano In Nats Loss

Tonight Victor Zambrano and Ramon Ortiz made me bite my tongue as they both pitched excellent. The winds at Shea were blowing in directly from center field. Between the 2 teams over 20 balls were hit in the outfield. These severe winds helped to hold both teams at bay in an excellent match up.

Zambrano pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits with 2 walks while striking out 4. The only run came in the 4th inning deriving from a single off the bat of Brian Schneider to score Nick Johnson. Two spacticular plays by Jose Reyes and one by “The Great Kazuo”, Kaz Matsui, also helped out Vic. Pedro Feliciano, Duaner Sanchez and Billy Wagner combined to pitch 3 scoreless, no hit innings.

The Met offense combined for 8 hits and 2 runs. The first run came in the sixth inning off the bat of Carlos Delgado as he hit his 10th homer of the year. The second and final run came in the 9th inning with 1 out and runners on first and second. Paul LoDuca hit a hard grounder to the pitcher (Gary Majewski), and the pitcher picked it up and threw an errant throw to second. Chavez cam home to score and the Mets win.

WP- Billy Wagner (2-0) 0.69 ERA
LP- Gary Majewski (1-2) 4.76ERA
