A Major Trade In The Works?
The writer at MLBTradeRumors.com claims that Omar Minaya is a bit concerned with Pedro’s health and may be looking to acquire a veteran starter. According to the source of this rumor St. Louis Cardinal Jason Marquis is the first preference for the Mets. The source also claims that the Mets have offered a package of players starting with Victor Diaz. Other pitchers who the Mets are interested in include Matt Clement, and Bronson Arroyo from the Red Sox and maybe Jose Contreras if the White Sox decide they want to trade him. I would like to remind you that this is just a rumor, and like most rumors it is unlikely. However this is not a bad idea. I would gladly bring in any of these guys to pitch in the middle of the rotation. Marquis, Contreras and Clement are all #2-3 starters, and Bronson is a #3-4 starter. Victor Diaz is very expendable and I would give him up in a heartbeat for any of these guys. Contreras is probably a long shot but I think the Mets can acquire any of the other 3 guys easily. Diaz would probably be sent off with a low level prospect. Marquis, Clement, and Arroyo are all fairly young, and still have upside. Marquis is 28, Clement is 32, and Arroyo is 29. |
