Morning Papers

Today we have many articles on Tom Glavine, mostly dealing with the importance of having a strong front ended rotation, 300 wins, his tutoring of prospects, and the possibility of Glavine being the opening day starter if Pedro is not ready. Injury updates on Delgado and Lo Duca, and also the scary news of Pedros car accident yesterday. There is also a very nice article on Mileage's family traveling to Port St Lucie to watch their son.

Glavine must deliver

Delgado avoids disaster
March 7
Newsday: "Carlos Delgado, already nursing a sore left elbow, backed his chair into a backdrop with the '06 World Baseball Classic logo yesterday, knocking the sign loose and nearly tumbling back-first off a platform."

For Pedro, car trouble could have been more than bump in road

March 7
Newsday: "A smiling Pedro Martinez bounced giddily in the passenger seat of a golf cart yesterday en route to a back field for his throwing session. But it was a much different scene last week when Martinez blew out a tire in his Aston Martin while driving on the Florida Turnpike, giving the Mets' $53-million ace a serious scare before he piloted the car to safety."

Lo Duca: Hand's No Issue

March 7
New York Post (registration required): "Lo Duca, who's been suffering from tendinitis in his right hand, went 0-for-2 in the Mets' 6-3 win over the Indians. The catcher didn't have any problems physically."

Milledge Family Follows the Son

New York Times (registration required): "Every 10 days or so, a Tradition Field parking attendant drives his golf cart past dozens of cars and over a vast expanse of green to knock on the door of Tony Milledge's mobile home."

The Mets' day in camp
March 7
Newark Star-Ledger (registration required): "One of these days, the Mets will play a game that actually feels like a home game. For the second consecutive day, visiting fans outnumbered Mets fans at Tradition Field. "

Graffanino could help Mets
March 7
Boston Globe (scroll down): "Checked the box scores on Kaz Matsui this spring? The Mets' second baseman fighting to keep his job is 0 for 12. Odd man out Tony Graffanino would make some sense for the Mets if he turns it on."
