Mets VS Indians Summary
The Mets get the victory in what was a great day for some, and a not so great day for others... The "Glavineator" Tom Glavine pitched 3 innings allowing 1 run, 4 hits and 1 walk. The newest Met Jose Lima was scheduled to pitch 3 innings but was pulled after 2 2/3 because he allowed 2 runs. Mike Venafro, the sidearm pitching lefty, allowed a walk in 1 inning. Bartolome Fortunato, the other pitcher we acquired in the Zambrano-Kazmir deal, pitched lights out for 1.1 innings with one strike out to get the "W". And once again the big man Henry Owens pitched a successful inning to earn the save. At the plate Cliff Floyd was the DH, and in the second inning he belted a solo home run against Indians starter Jake Westbrook. Victor Diaz went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Jeff Keppenger went 2 for 4 with a double. Chris Woodward played 3rd base and in 2 ABs had a 2 out hit that scored 2 runs (also had a SF). The infamous Lastings Milledge came into the game to play left and in one at bat scorched a single. defensively the Mets played a good game. Anderson Hernandez and Jeff Keppenger had a nice...no a B-E-A-Utiful double play. Lastings Milledge almost made another diving catch in left but came up just a tad bit short, however he stopped the ball and got it back in. I did not see the first couple of innings, but from what I was told Xavier Nady did not look very good in the outfield. Other than that Paul LoDuca had a passed ball (PB), and that was about it when it comes to defensive play. **NOTE** According to MLB.com former Met Al Leiter will likely retire after the classic. |
